End of Life Announcements

End Of Life Notices

Box is working constantly to improve the user experience on Box, and sometimes that means removing complex or rarely used functionality to make room for an even better product.  email outlines the upcoming features that will end of life (EOL) in the coming months.

February- April 2015

Box Sync 3x
Box announced their latest Sync 4.0 client in December 2013 and began notifying customers in July 2014 that they would end support for Box Sync 3x on June 30, 2015.

To upgrade now, follow this Upgrading from Sync 3 to Sync 4 guide.

Users that haven’t upgraded to the latest Box Sync 4x version by June 30, 2015 will be logged out of their desktop Box Sync client and see an error message.

“All Tags” Feature
Box will depreciate the “All Tags” filter on March 30, 2015. Users will no longer see “All Tags” when viewing the tag filter list or when adding a new tag. All other tagging capabilities will remain unchanged. Please reference Tagging Content in Box for more information on the tagging feature.

The two alternative workarounds available to users are to type the tag manually when adding/filtering by tag or to type the tag manually once and apply to a piece of content the user owns. The tag will now show up in “My tags” when a user is adding/filtering by tags.

November 2014 – February 2015
WordPress widget
As of December 1, 2014, Box will end support for the creation of new WordPress widgets. At this time, the WordPress widget EOL will only stop the creation of new WordPress widgets and not affect existing widget functionality.
As of January 5, 2015, Box will officially end all support for the WordPress widget, including the ability to upload. You will need to fully transition to Box Embed for the same functionality.
Box encourages you to use Box Embed to embed files and folders from your account page onto any website, blog, or social networking service that supports HTML iframe embed code. To learn more, see our Box Embed article.
WebDocs
Box is continuing the phased EOL of WebDocs, which will terminate completely January 5, 2015. For more information, please see the EOL notice.
